Pre-Conference Programs
Join us Thursday and Friday before the conference for our pre-conferences. This year we are offering an OSHA Training Institute, Education Center half-day course; 7500 Introduction to Safety and Health Management on Thursday, August 22nd and the Injury and Illness Prevention Program – Safety Systems on Friday, August 23rd. Attendance at the Alabama Governor’s Safety and Health Conference is not required in order to participate in any of these programs. A block of rooms is reserved at the Perdido Beach Resort for the participants of the pre-conferences at a rate of $110 plus 11% tax. (See additional hotel information located in this brochure.) All courses are on a first-come first served basis. The pre-conference fee is non-refundable. Each program is limited to 30 participants, so register early!

7500 Introduction to Safety and Health Management
Thursday, August 22nd
1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Price - $25

This four hour course will use interactive assignments and thought-provoking group projects. Participants will have a strong understanding of the benefits in implementing a safety and health management system in the workplace. Topics include: Overview of S&H Management System; Management leadership and employee involvement; Work site analysis; Hazard prevention and control; S&H Training and Program evaluation. The instructor for this class is Bill Weems Dr.Ph., CIH.
Dr. Weems is Director Emeritus of the Safe State Program at the University of Alabama. He has over 47 years of research, teaching, and consulting experience in occupational safety and health management.

Injury and Illness Prevention Program – Safety Systems

Friday, August 23rd
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Price - $50

The focus of this one day training program will be teaching fundamental Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) principles and equipping participants with tools and strategies to implement an effective IIPP program within their business, including training of workers. This training program has been endorsed by leading companies and industries throughout Alabama.

• Implementation and Operation
• Evaluation and Corrective Action
• Management Review

Instructors for this training will be Dr. Weems (previously noted in the 7500 pre-conference) and Joseph Pilleteri, CSP, Associate Director of UA SafeState’s Training and Conference Activities.
