About the P2 Program

Partially funded by a grant from the U.S. EPA, the UA SafeState P2 Program assists businesses with technical assistance and training to find ways to reduce waste and save money.

By reviewing utility records and performing an onsite walkthrough, UA SafeState will identify all reasonable cost savings measures to assist the overall operations. Participating businesses will receive a no-cost, in-depth assessment of plant operations.

Who We Are

UA SafeState is part of the College of Engineering at the University of Alabama. Our team also serves as the P2 Technical Assistance contact for the state of Alabama. UA SafeState also performs environmental and health and safety consultations, manages the OSHA training institute, and develops professional training. Learn more about UA SafeState.

What We Do

Technical Assessments (onsite and virtual), Training, Collaboration. The assessments examine energy efficiency, water conservation, chemical use and waste reduction opportunities. ​

How We Do It

Our P2 technical assessment begins with a review of production and utility records (water use, electrical energy use, chemical use, wastewater treatment costs, and waste disposal costs). The initial review helps us identify areas that require strategies to reduce waste and overages. Our team then visits the facility, observing operations (virtual assessments are an option).

Within 60 days, a confidential recommendations report is provided to the participating business free of charge.
