Introduction to Industrial Stormwater Management
Offered Semiannually in the Spring and Fall: See course dates and register for Introduction to Industrial Stormwater Management Course
Many activities and processes at industrial facilities are exposed to the weather (material handling and storage, equipment maintenance, etc.).
Stormwater runoff that comes into contact with these activities can transport pollutants and contaminate nearby rivers, lakes, and wetlands. Federal regulations [40 CFR 122.26(b)(14)(i)-(xi)] require stormwater discharges associated with specific categories of industrial activity to be covered under National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits.
Successful completion of this one-day course will provide foundational knowledge for staff to achieve compliance with NPDES permit conditions.
Topics include: development of a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), review of best management practices (BMPs), sampling and monitoring strategies, and understanding permit conditions.
Spill Prevention, Controls, and Countermeasures Plan Implementation
Offered Semiannually in the Spring and Fall – the day following the Stormwater Course: See course dates and register for Spill Prevention, Controls, and Countermeasures Plan Course
This half-day course introduces the concepts and requirements of the Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) rule (40 CFR Part 112).
It can act as your required annual SPCC training and is also a great introduction for new oil-handling personnel.
The material focuses on industrial, commercial, agricultural, and public facilities using or storing oil and covers essential topics such as: rule applicability, general rule requirements, prevention measures, secondary containment, inspection procedures, spill response, and notification.
Students will work through the EPA Tier I Qualified Facility Template and learn the basics of developing, implementing and maintaining an oil spill prevention plan (SPCC plan). Through practical exercises and discussions you will grow your understanding of the SPCC Rule and how to control and respond to spills.
