Our hands-on training and assessment activities are conducted in our hands-on training room in the University of Alabama’s Capital Hall Building. We have direct access to our training room. It is approximately 1500 square feet and is comprised of three main areas: a classroom with tables and chairs for 16 students; our asbestos and lead-based paint abatement training models, used in our abatement classes; and hands-on equipment storage.

Our asbestos model is shaped like a cube, about 10 feet long by 10 feet wide by 8 feet tall.

It is of pipe construction and simulates piping insulated with asbestos. Think of the tinker toy set you had as a child. Our classes use this model during our “glove bag removal” hands-on exercise.

Our lead-based paint model is approximately 16 feet long and 16 feet wide. It consists of 8 foot tall walls and includes door and window units. The walls are of frame construction with two interior and two exterior training spaces. We use this model during our “containment and removal” hands-on exercises.

Clean rest rooms are available. Liquid refreshments are provided for the students to encourage hydration during the hands-on exercises. We shuttle students to and from this facility in a University van.
